DIY Scrabble Tile Coasters

Lately board games have been on my mind. I've been thinking about different crafts and home projects that I could incorporate the pieces into. There are a ton of different ways to use scrabble tiles. I decided that I needed some fun coasters for the house and I saw this super easy tutorial on pinterest so I got to it.

I ordered the scrabble tiles on ebay, but you can find them at garage sales, etsy or other online vendors. Cork sheets from your local craft supply store. E6000 Wonder glue:) and an xacto knife.

I decided how wide I wanted the coasters to be and started gluing them down. Since I didn't purchase specific letters and didn't plan to actually spell anything I wanted to make sure I didn't spell anything inappropriate on accident. I stuck STUDS in there only because it was the only thing I could spell with my letters.

After everything was dry I simple cut through the cork with the xacto knife. Make sure that you are using a crafting/cutting mat under your project so that you don't accidentally damage the surface of the table top.

When each coaster was cut out I applied a thin coat of wood finish to bring out the color of the tiles as well as waterproof them.

Once finished they looked great! Allow to dry overnight to make sure everything is sealed and enjoy. What crafts have you made with board game pieces?

  1. I made something similar for my boys' aunt. Instead, I mod podged scrapbook paper onto a ceramic tile and then placed scrapbook letters in the one corner forming words - faith, hope, joy, & love. She plays Scrabble every week so these were a perfect fit!

    Yours turned out graet!

  4. What a fabulous tutorial! I love that you glued them onto cork, so as not to scratch the furniture. The stain/sealer really brings out a good color! Good tip on looking for accidental words...that would happen to me!! Gotta put this on my "to do" list!
